Outsourcing can seem like a big and scary step. You might be thinking “but should I spend money, paying someone, when I can do it myself?” When you are a small business owner outsourcing might seem like too much. The truth is, you can’t do it all yourself and at some point, you are going to have to come to terms with the fact that needing help means you are growing. Getting the help you need is what will keep you from getting stuck.
How much of your time is being spent trying to check off all the items from your to-do list?
Do you have a never-ending to-do list? Does it seem like the more you do, the longer it gets? That’s a pretty good sign you are spending way too much time on those little repetitive, annoying and time-consuming tasks, that are needed to keep your business working but are actually keeping you from being able to make the money you want.
Are you doing tasks that could be done by someone else? To grow your business it is fundamental that you focus on income-generating tasks. There are things in your business that only you can do, that require your expertise and your time. In order to create a business and an income you can live off of, you need to spend time creating value. The fact of the matter is that you can’t spend time creating value if all your time is taken by the daily tasks that are needed just to keep your business up and running.
If you can record a loom to show someone how to do it you can outsource it. A lot of administrative tasks are pretty simple and don’t require a lot of specific knowledge. If you create and document your processes you can easily train someone else to do it. Needing help is not a sign that you aren’t good enough, it is a sign that you are growing!
Are you unable to take on new clients because you don’t have any time?
If you don’t have any time to work on new projects or onboard new clients this is a sure sign that it is time to start getting help. You can’t do it all by yourself, and the truth is, if you try to you will get stuck. When you outsource you are literally buying yourself more time so that you can work on what you love and that will actually bring income into the business and you can reach and help more people!
Another sign is when your business isn’t able to push past a financial goal you have been chasing. Not being able to get to that goal might make you think you aren’t ready to outsource, but trying to do it all by yourself might be the very thing preventing you from getting there. When you outsource, you free up your time and you are able to make more money because you pay less for what you are outsourcing than what it would cost for you to complete. This also gives you the ability to create more value for your clients.
Are you turning good leads away because you can’t offer them your best at this time? You are losing opportunities to grow and get yourself out there. You are spending your time doing things that aren’t your passion when you actually have the opportunity to help more people and do what you love, but you’re being forced to turn them away because you don’t have the time.
Are you letting your business slide?
Have you dropped the ball on creating content for your social media presence? Are you unable to keep up with your Facebook group? You know those things are important and that you need consistency to get people to know you but you just can’t get to it.
Is your blog being ignored, or have you stopped producing your podcast? You try to set up your priorities and there is simply not enough time for everything so you drop the ball on the thing you should be doing for your business because you can’t drop the ball on your client’s work.
Are you unable to update your course? You have more things to put out there that could really be helping out more people, but taking the time to sit down, plan out a lesson, film it… it all just seems impossible to you at the moment. And even if you plan to do it the next week, more stuff just keeps popping up and you can’t ignore it.
You don’t have time to create new things?
Have you been putting off creating new products or services for your clients? I mean, if you are having trouble even keep up with what you already have, let alone get time to develop and launch something new!
Do you have a new product or service that you want to create but you can’t handle the leads it may bring? That’s another point. If you are already having to turn away leads because you can’t serve them right now, what is even the point in creating new products or services that will bring more leads you can’t take in? That can even be hurting your business’s image.
Are you so overwhelmed by all the tasks you need to do that you don’t have any energy left for creating new products or services? It is stressful and it drains us. You are not alone. Being a business owner doesn’t make you stop being human, you need time for yourself, to breathe and relax. We can’t sustain a business when we are overworked, and that isn’t good for anyone.
It all comes down to time.
When you start taking your time seriously, you will understand what your time is worth. You are valuable, your skillset, your experiences, your creativity and the service you provide, and only you can provide, are valuable. That all translates into how you spend your time. If you don’t value your time you aren’t valuing your self and your work, and you can make a business work like that.
Find your hourly wage for last year. Look at how much you made last year and how many hours you worked, that will give you your hourly wage. You might end up finding out you are paying your self very little. Like you might be paying your self less then you’d be paying an intern that works part-time. That is demining to you and it is no surprise if you are burned out.
Want to make more per hour? If you can outsource a task to someone for less than it costs for you to do, then you can start taking on more clients and make more money. You don’t need to wait until you have a certain income, as soon as you start outsourcing you are making more money.
