Rule #2
Sit in silence for at least 10 minutes each day.
Okay this one I know is important I just don’t know how to do it: I will make it my goal to try this one each day for the next week and see how it goes.
I have heard for a long time that silence is important, and that with silence you can learn lessons in life by listening, and seeing things that you might have otherwise missed.
In this day and age, doing nothing is usually frowned upon. Sitting in silence may seem like nothing. It could be viewed as a waste of time.
There is a belief that meditation is the equivalent of silence. When you are just beginning to meditate you should go easy on yourself and not put too much pressure to be perfect, because there are people who have spent many years perfecting their skill. I have also read that when you meditate it mimics sleep, and that some beginners fall asleep during the “learning” phase. There appears to be a fine line between going to sleep and meditating. This will be tough, but staying in an upright position should help. Lying down would make it way too easy to go to sleep.
I always thought that sitting in silence or “meditating” would mean that there would be silence in your surroundings and no thoughts in your mind. From the reading that I have done for this blog I have noticed that it is important to not fight the thoughts or attempt to force them to stop, but instead let them come and go and be relaxed about them.
I have also found many benefits for meditation. It is interesting to think about the concept of “sitting and doing nothing” as being beneficial and helpful. I can see how your body would benefit though, because I have always believed that the mind is a very powerful tool that you can use to make you or break you. Theoretically meditation is tapping into that power and allowing you to channel that power.
I will let you know how it goes!
