How do you focus when you have too much?

In this episode of the Overgivers Anonymous Podcast, I want to talk to you about focus. Sometimes it’s hard to find focus when there’s so much to do. I’m sure you’ve had these moments where all you could do is sit at your desk wishing you could focus if you could just get your brain to stop being crazy! If you’re in that space, where you’re overwhelmed, where there’s too much to get done, it leads to procrastination. We have all been there, trust me, but how do you get out of that space? That’s exactly what I talked about in this episode.

 

Highlights:

  • It isn’t necessarily trying to fight through to be more focused. However, it’s about finding a way to clear the clutter. 
  • The dates don’t have to be in stone, but the dates are there so that the tasks don’t get lost 
  • I like to think about focus as if you’re looking through a camera that has manual focus.
  • When you can fine-tune that focus and make it so that you can see every single branch, every single twig that comes off the branch, every single leaf. You can make that focus super clear and make it easy for you to move forward in your path because you can see what’s happening in front of you.
  • At the end of the day, when you force yourself to focus, you’re actually doing yourself more harm than good. 
  • Sometimes you need to get up, walk around, go outside, read a book, colour, exercise, have a dance party, do something else. Give yourself a break.
  • Your to-do list should clear with each individual step there so that it can be easy for you to accomplish your tasks.
  • Clarity isn’t the same for everybody.
  • What is important is that when you look at your to-do list, it inspires you to say “I know exactly what I need to do today”. And that alone is going to help you to contain and maintain the focus.
