Morning Routine
Do you hit the floor running when you get out of bed?
OR
Do you have a morning routine that you follow every morning to get your day started off on the right foot?
How you start your day matters!
It doesn’t matter at what level your business is at, the way you start your workday matters!
If you roll out of bed, grab a coffee, and pick up where you left off on the computer last night, you are in a reactive mode. That reactive state will stay with you for the entire day.
These morning routines have been circling the internet and they are being discussed in entrepreneur circles because they work!
Finding your routine
There is a tonne of articles, courses, and books out there on starting your day with a morning routine. Most people would like to know what the RIGHT routine is so that they can implement it and become successful. The problem is that you can’t copy someone else’s routine and magically get their results, that isn’t how this works.
Your routine is just that, it is yours.
I encourage you to listen to, read and learn about what others are doing for their morning routines to help you develop one that works for you.
To-do lists
Most people have been told that they need to make a list of things to get done each day and work from that list all day.
That isn’t wrong, it just isn’t 100% right.
To-do lists are great IF they are made up of tasks that will move your business in the direction that you want it to go.
Changes in your business
At any given time in your business’ fiscal year, you may need to pivot. This may be due to a change in the marketplace, or it could be due to changes that you need to make to serve your clients and yourself better.
If your to-do list is created based on what you think you need to accomplish, or if you are simply carrying forward the items that haven’t been completed yet to a new list and adding all the things that come up you are missing out on the bigger picture.
Your business goals
If you set goals at the beginning of your fiscal year, congratulations!
If you haven’t set goals for this year yet, then stop reading this right now, go create your financial goals, and decide which projects you want to focus on this year to drive the revenue that you need to hit your financial goals, then come back!
Once you have your yearly goals set, it is important to revisit them.
I would encourage you to at least revisit them quarterly, but having a system in place to revisit them monthly is a better plan.
How to match my to-do list to my goals?
Once you know what you are working towards, you can then break them down into quarterly, monthly and weekly targets.
Your weekly targets are where you match your to-do list to your goals.
Focus your time and energy on the tasks that will bring your closer to your weekly goals and you will ensure that your to-do list is actually helping you to accomplish the yearly goals that you have chosen.
What if the unexpected happens?
Let’s be perfectly honest, the unexpected is going to happen EVERY week!
This next step is going to take practice to implement on a regular basis in your business.
Whenever something pops up, and it feels urgent and important ask yourself if it is in line with any of the goals that you have set.
If one of your goals is customer service satisfaction of 3.5 or more and you have clients who are having a lot of problems with your product or service and you need to create something to help them to have a better experience, but that isn’t in this week’s goals, you will need to revisit your goals and move things around so that you can work these changes in.
If you received an email inviting you to attend an amazing conference that lasts for a week and you are excited by all the great people that will be speaking, however, it is being held during the month that you are launching your new course, it is something you should probably skip this time around as taking a week out of your launch will most likely hurt your bottom line.
