In this episode, we’re talking about burning out vs feeling energized. There are many times in our business when we are stuck in that overgiver mindset, we are literally burning ourselves out. Think about a log in a fire, for example, it’s only going to burn for so long before it burns out. If it’s not being fed, eventually the fire will die. The same thing applies to your business. If you don’t feed the fire of your business, it’s going to die. It’s sad but it’s true. I want you to think about the difference between burning out and being energized as a business owner.
Here are some signs to watch out for:
- You are working hard day after day, and you haven’t been able to switch off inside your business, that’s going to burn you out. If you are constantly working as many hours of the day that you possibly can, you’re desperately trying to get as much possibly squeezed out of every single hour, you’re eating at your desk, you’re not spending time with friends or family. You’re miserable and you’re on the road to burning out.
- If you’re constantly trying to prove your worth to your clients and others around you. If you’re constantly in a state of trying to please everybody, you are a people pleaser, an overgiver, constantly trying to make people love you for the things that you know you’re good at, but you just need their acceptance. It’s exhausting.
- If you’re ignoring your personal needs, you’re not sleeping properly, you’re not eating properly, you’re not eating healthy you’re not even taking time for your social needs.
- If you’re irritated, your emotions are all over the place. Maybe you’re cranky, you’re snappy. It takes a lot of energy out of the person to feel that way.
- A lot of times business owners get to a point where things aren’t jamming right. For all kinds of different reasons, sometimes it’s because we built a business we hate. Sometimes we’ve built a business and we’re not making enough money, whatever it is that’s causing you to feel this way. We all go through those periods of time inside the entrepreneurial journey. But if you’re stuck there, and if you’re there a lot, then that is another sign of burnout.
In this episode, I go over some steps you can take to flip from being burned out to being energized in your business, to working in your genius zone and loving the business you built for yourself. You have something valuable to offer otherwise you wouldn’t have thought of creating a business in the first place. So that value is important to other people. Please make sure that you find a way to look after yourself while you’re looking after other people so that you can be an energized business owner too.
