How can an OBM help me focus on my priorities?

February 12, 2020

How can an OBM help me focus on my priorities?

As a business owner, you usually have this long to-do list with a zillion tasks that you need to do and all the projects you want to complete. With so many things on your mind and stuff popping up whenever you start feeling like you just got a handle on things, it can be really hard to prioritize what your priorities really are.

As an OBM there are many ways I can relieve some of the weight from your shoulders and make sure your time is being spent on your actual priorities. This allows you and your team to work more effectively and you will start seeing awesome results on your business.

Co-create the business focus

Creating a business plan together helps to bring focus to your overall goals. On top of that, it provides a foundation for the team to work within. My expertise aligned with your vision allow us to create a business plan that is effective and designed towards achieving your specific goals. A strong business plan to guide your activities while still leaving room for you to pivot is essential for success. And we can create that together.

You choose the projects that are important to your  yearly goal. You are the visionary, the one with the ideas. Your goals determine the future of your business, where do you want to go from here, to where do you see this company in 1, 2, 5 and 10 years? You will determine what you want, I will help you achieve it.

I help you figure out which tasks are integral to completing those projects. What kind of help you need to achieve those goals and turn your ideas into services and/or products? It is also important to keep the plan, tasks and schedules updated through time. Things change and your business plan might need some tweaking! I have the knowledge you need to plan your business and the skills to set up your team to execute with success.

Create boundaries around your time

I help you see how much time you are spending and show you how to maximize your efforts. I will assist you in recognizing your patterns and strengths so that you can make the most of them. I am also able to recognize your weakness which can then be outsourced or delegated!

I am your gatekeeper! If it isn’t part of your plan, it probably shouldn’t get any of your time. Saying “no” is often a challenge for many of us and it can be really hard. I work as a gatekeeper to guarantee you are not taking on too much or being pulled away from your goals.

I help make saying “no” easier by doing it for you. I am the “bad guy” so you don’t have to. That will help to keep your schedule reasonable. But you won’t have to be the face responsible for delivering the bad news.

Delegate to team members

I can inform the team of the plans or we can do it together! Everyone will know which projects and tasks and responsibilities are theirs. I’ll make sure everyone knows what they are supposed to do. Let them know of any changes and help to hold them accountable for those responsibilities. Communication is the key and it’s part of my job to guarantee the information flow is great throughout your team.

Allow the team to take ownership of their part in the execution of the plan. It is important to recognize your team member’s value and make sure they know how much their work is appreciated. When the success of the business is portrayed as the success of the team everyone is more motivated and happy to work on the project.

You have an amazing team, they want to see you succeed too. They want to be part of it and it is a group effort. As a business owner, you are the leader and the person they look up to. Creating a good work environment and a great relationship with and within your team, makes them feel that it is their success as well. This methodology allows your team to thrive.

Create deliberate check-in points

A plan without a check-in is a waste of time! Things change all the time. Your plan needs to work as a compass, not a GPS. Having check-in points is very important to keep you plan updated and aligned with your goals while also making room for assessing any unexpected events.

Short, focused meetings, will keep your team on time and projects moving forward. It is great for creating an environment of good communication and information flow. That guarantees everyone is on the same page and the efforts are being made in the same direction.

Checking in regularly is a great way to catch things before they get out of hand and provides an opportunity for team members to assist each other. Recognizing and preventing imminent crisis keeps your business from being held back and allows for much faster and steady growth.

Assess the pivots with you

There are many times when a great plan needs to change. However, changing the plan without a good reason isn’t the best way to get things done. Analyzing carefully and making informed decisions is essential to keep you from going around in circles trying to do billions of new things instead of investing in what you already have.

When you get a new idea, or you want to change the direction a project is going in, we talk it through and decide how to move forward. Perhaps there is a better time to implement that idea. It might not give you a better result than the one you are already working on. Or it makes total sense, and it needs to happen right away.

If there is a pivot to make, I make sure that everyone is aware of the pivot and assess how it affects each team member. Then, together, we figure out how to make it happen!
