Many times we are working on building our business with our heads down. We are busy making plans, doing busy work and we don’t see what is going on around us. As business owners it is important to take time to look up from our work and survey our situation. I think the worst thing that can happen to any business is for it to become stale, or for you to become complacent and fall into a rut.
What causes us to fall into ruts in our business and in our personal lives? One of the biggest things is regret. We spend time worrying about what we should have done or the opportunity that we missed and waste so much energy on those things that it causes us to get weighed down with the regret. This chews up our energy and leaves us empty.
Think about the opportunities that you have had along the way, and the ones that you are still waiting for. Don’t morn for the opportunities that you have missed or for the ones that didn’t work out the way that you thought they would, but instead think about the opportunities that you have tried and the lessons that you have learned from those experiences. Use these experiences to choose new opportunities.
Each experience that you have had in your life has shaped you into who you are. This is not the time to look back on your life and spend your future it in regret. Find the moments in your life that you are most proud of, and look for the moments where you have learned the most. Those are the positives that you need to focus on to live the rest of your life looking forward to the next opportunity.
Some of you have lived in regret for so long that you don’t think you have any opportunities left in your life or career. I want you to listen carefully to waht I am about to say. Once you change your thinking from regret to learning from your past and looking forward the new and exciting opportunities will begin to come forward.
Just as this quote says, if opportunity doesn’t knock, build a door. By taking an active role in learning about your past experiences and being proud of yourself for the things that you have accomplished is how you build the door.
There are opportunities every day with your name on them, it is up to you to decide if they are right for you and your business. You are not obligated to take each one, or to comb over the details of each one either. In time you will be able to trust your gut and as opportunities surface for you the decision as to which opportunity to take will get easier.
Have a wonderful week, be nice to yourself and start building your door.
